Although hair loss can occur for a variety of reasons, including some medications, thyroid problems and nutrient deficiencies, most often it occurs in a process called follicle miniaturization, in which free testosterone converts to DHT. In turn, DHT attacks the hair follicles, and shrinks them until they’re dead.
Estimates suggest this accounts for up to 95% of hair loss in men and women.
